Let's make an ombre. DIY pillow dye!

Tired of your old, boring white bedding? So was I. My bedroom was in deep need of a facelift. The solution? Dye my existing pillowcases and sheets, of course! I love updating decor for as inexpensively as possible. Through a little research, some luck, and a packet RIT dye, I was able to achieve this goal.

This process is easy, cheap, and honestly pretty fun. Here's what you need: 1-2 gallons of water, RIT Dye (I used powder), and a cup of salt. If you intend on dying silk, please add vinegar to your shopping list.

Instructions: In large pot bring water to a boil. On the side, in an old and large bowl mix together the powered dye and salt. Once water is boiling transfer it to the bowl and stir together ingredients. Sit to the side.

If you want a clear and define line when creating your ombre, dampen the entire pillowcase and leave your desired "white space" dry. This will create the line.

Move your pillow case into the dye and soak up to the dry section of fabric. Do not let this enter the mixture. Pull the pillow case out of the dye a few inches and let sit. A few minutes later pull the case more and again, let soak. Continue this process until you are at the end of the pillowcase. The end of the fabric which has been soaking since the start of the process will be darkest.

Thoroughly rinse, let dry, and finally place on your bed. You will be shocked by how simple and beautifully this project works out. Enjoy!
