Do-It-Yourself Upholstery

Seriously- I LOVE DIY projects soooo much. I don't know if it's the aspect of being creative or if it's the fact that I save loads of money. Either way, taking something old and making it new is just a little past-time I appreciate and completely enjoy!

Earlier this year I bought a chair from Ikea, nothing fancy just a nice white "poang chair". As we all know, no lounging chair is complete without a foot rest, and while the furniture super center offered a matching piece, I decided to save my 40 bucks and figure out a better solution.

While wandering a thrift shop (I stop by second-hand stores often, it's my grown up version of a treasure hunt) I discovered an ugly, crimson foot rest. Despite it being an eye sore, the stool had a soft cushion and was in great condition. For a mere $10.00 it was mine! Soon following I rounded up scrap fabric of my liking and purchased an upholstery nail strip ($12.00).

Nail or tack strips are by far one of the best inventions ever for "crafters" like myself. They are extremely user friendly-all you need is a hammer. They are relatively inexpensive and can instantly jazz up any boring, old piece of furniture!

By simply using a staple gun, I gathered the fabric and pinned it to the bottom of the foot rest. The tack strip added another level of durability, however, it was mostly just incorporated for looks. Finally, I used a few extra nails to spruce up the top of the foot rest for a fancier look.

Easy has that! Yay!
