father knows best

Looking back on my life I can’t help but think about how much I admire my dad. Living with my mom, sister, and myself never could have been easy. For my dad it was always three against one. We sat the age for when we could date, we decided how much money would be spent on shopping ventures, and Lord only knows how many chick flicks my father as seen in theatres. And while this tolerance and easy going attitude is something I will always appreciate about him, the real reason why I respect him is simply because he truly does know best.

I wish I had a running count on how many times my father has predicted my future. Now I am not sure if this is a dad thing, or if it is just my dad’s thing, bottom line being that I never believed him. In fact, instead of trusting my dad, often times I would fight him. And after the situation had played out, my dad’s point would have been proven, and I would never admit that I had been wrong. But I’m an adult now and looking back I just laugh. I was naïve. Life would have been easier if I had listened.

So here ya go dad, this ones for you. You were right and you still are. You are the smartest person I know and I deeply value your opinion. Thanks for everything.
